My idea of a cardio workout: Auction!

We spent the last Saturday of March at an auction. I love, love, love auctions! My heart races and I get so excited that I can hardly stand myself, not to mention the poor soul bidding against me. This auction is a yearly event in New Washington at the Catholic school. Two rings from 9:30 AM until 5:00 pm. These feedsacks went for well over a hundred dollars and one box of 12 went for two hundred dollars. Wowzer!

A box of fabric I was lusting for but not willing to pay $80 for. Roses, need I say more?

This odd piece of furniture was a postcard sorter belonging to my dear friend ,Genie Kalb who passed away Sept. 25, 2008. Genie was one of those people that made me want to be a better person after spending time with her. I miss her and think of her often.

Two of three featherweights that were sold that day. One of them went home with my sweet sister-in-law, Margie. One of them came home with me! Goodie,Goodie!! I have wanted one for a while and this one sews beautifully, has the book and attachments.

This xtra small dress form cracks me up. What? It's not a dress form? Really! It would have been the perfect Halloween decor for my sewing room wearing nothing but a spooky apron. I refrained.

One thing that I can not resist is dishes. Especially when a soup tureen and a large platter is being held up and the bid is stuck at $10. You have my attention now! Did you say 53 pieces? Did I say $15? Yep! Those babies came home with me. Now where to put them?

Need I say more?

It has a tension adjustment on top and what seems to be a thread holder on the side.

The last time that I blogged I told you about the sweet Quilt/fabric shop in Franklin N. C.. You will need a napkin to wipe the drool from your chin because i am going to show you the delicious fabric that I brought home with me! The piece above I bought for a stack and whack project.

I have no idea what I will do with these, just look at them for a while. Sometimes it is very hard to make the first cut into anything this gorgeous.

I finished the apron this week. I love this pattern, so easy!

North Carolina and back!

Mr. Wonderful and I made a trip to North Carolina last week. My sweet, sweet father had a mass removed from his chest on Monday. He is recovering wonderfully and we found out today that it was not cancer! Thank each of you for your prayers and well wishes!

We left Ohio on Sunday with a little snow on the ground.When we were almost to Ashville on Rt. 40 the views were breathtaking. Snow in the mountains!

The roads were dry but the mountains were white!

I can't tell you how happy I was to see any sign of spring!

I love the majestic mountains. The view changes everyday.

Wonderful homes tucked in the mountainside that you don't see when the leaves are on the trees.

I must tell you that I found my heaven! A sweet, oh so sweet, quilt shop in Franklin, N. C..

This is the eye candy that first set my heart a flutter! I can't resist a rose! This quilt was featured on pg. 38 of the Fall/Winter issue of Quilt Sampler. You could order the kit on line. I was told that they sold hundreds of kits, all cut in the store by the most creative women I ever layed eyes on!

There was no one in sight when I first walked in,so no one saw me do the "happy dance" except my mom. My heart raced and I didn't know what to look at first. The most gorgeous fabrics that I ever did see, and the most beautiful, creative vignettes with special little eye candy everywhere!

Fabulous Friday!

This amazing picture was shot by my wonderful daughter-in-law, Crystal. This past week, Forbes magazine ran an article on the company that my son works for and they used Crystal's photos! Wow! I am impressed! You can see more of her amazing work here: sevensphoto.com be sure to click on her blog.

Last Thursday Gigi and I went to Columbus to celebrate her birthday. We shopped at our favorite stores on 23, then went to Polaris looking for good food. Omgoodness, did we find it! Smokey Bones, need I say more. No, but I will.

We ate it all but one breadstick! So good.

I found the perfect gift for such a wonderful friend at Home Goods. We love that store!

What the Heehaw? Did you guess fabric? Yep! My ever so smart sister-in-law Janie came up with a brilliant way to store fabric. She cut off hanging files, folded fabric over each half and boom; the perfect solution to a growing ~~addiction ,problem~~ stash. She and two of her sisters used file cabinets. I didn't have a file cabinet and it has been too cold to dumpster dive so I decided to go with these stackable hanging files. I like that they are portable .

I was able to get 30 pieces of fabric in each one.

This makes it so much easier to match fabrics.

Did I mention that I found them on ~~Clarance~~ clearance at Targee'?

Now on a much more important note: My ever so sweet Daddy is having surgery , Monday morning in Ashville N. Carolina. We will be leaving on Sunday to meet him at the hospital. Please pray that everything turns out ok! Oh, how I love this man!

Button Tuesday

Sunday Margi and I had a "playdate". I dusted off my stamping and card making supplies. Wow, It's been a while. My creative mojo had cobwebs!
Margi gave me an early birthday present. The sweeeetest set of stamps! Button cards; yep, shut-up! Button cards! Yippee, That's right, Button cards.
We played for hours and I just love this set of stamps. I left all my ~~crap~~ supplies out on a table in my family room and played most of the day on Monday. Happy Presidents' day to me! So, do you want to see what I created? TaDa!

I ~~stole~~ borrowed the frame from Mr. Wonderful, he had Zippo lighters in it????? I stamped the cards with my B day present and mounted modern black glass buttons on each card. Sooo pretty.

Button it up Tuesday!

Yesterday was button study. I had missed the January meeting and I can't tell you how I missed this group of wonderful women!

We mounted buttons on a picture of a flower arrangement. I left my camera at home so I didn't get a picture of each one but they were amazing. I finished mine at home this morning and here are the results:

We took an extended vacation in Florida and North Carolina. I say extended because I had booked a condo for 2 weeks, when we got there it was so nice that Mr. Wonderful and his mother ~~conned~~ talked me into taking another week. Mr. Wonderful and I were homesick after week 2!
    When we left Florida ~~finally~~ we stopped at Mr. Wonderful's sisters in North Carolina. His sister,Jane came with her son, daughter and grandson to visit. We had a wonderful visit! That little guy was adorable!
    We are all ready to leave the next morning and someone checks the weather forcast. Not good. So, we stay with Ted and Diane 3 more nights.Now if you are going to get stranded somewhere, Diane's is the place to be. She has an amazing sewing studio behind her house and I just happened to have my sewing machine with me.I also had a bottle of wine and we soon discovered wine and sewing are not a good combination. When sewing under the influence a seam ripper is your best friend. We did talk and laugh. The wine only had a positive effect on that.
    We arrived at home on Thursday evening to find everything covered in ice. Why did we leave Florida? Oh yea, I was homesick! Someone should have told me to get over myself.

We had a wonderful vacation, my mother-in-law got to go to Florida for her 88th birthday, and we got home safely. There's no place like home even if it is covered with ice!

The halls are decked! Now just a little more tweeking! The family room got changed up a little this year. I saved this limb early this spring. I hid it behind my garden shed, Mr. Wonderful carried it to the burn pile, I brought it back. I explained that I had an idea?:{_ Ideas strike fear in the heart of Mr. Wonderful. So after spray painting the perfect pot and setting the limb in cement, Mr. Wonderful somehow got my "idea" inside.

Mr. Wonderful painted a truck load of second hand furniture. This corner curio is my favorite piece and is the first thing you see when you enter the bedroom.

Blue has been my favorite color for as long as I can remember. Blue calms me and makes me happy. I am sure Mr. Wonderful needs a place to get away from all that pink fru-fru!

I tried to feel guilty about how long it had been since I had blogged! I really did! The truth of the matter is that I have just been having too much fun. This summer has gone so fast and we have crammed it full! We just got home from Savannah, Georgia on Friday. We were gone ten days and we had a blast! Our son, Shannon travels to Savannah for business quite often and we were going to Tybee Island and Savannah on vacation. Shannon and Crystal flew in on Friday and we picked them up at the airport. We stayed on Tybee Island until Sunday night and then went in to Savannah. Shannon worked Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Crystal and I shopped. Mr. Wonderful golfed and made sure everyone had a great time. We walked a lot. I have never walked so much in my life! It's a good thing, because I have never ate so much in my life! Such amazing food!

From almost anywhere in Savanna you can see this bridge. This was the view from our hotel window. We drove across it and I got butterflies. It felt like we were going up on a rollercoaster. Very steep!

Spinning out of control!

The whirlwind started with a button show in Wooster, Ohio , July 24. I haven't recovered yet! We had contacted an auctioneer before we went to North Carolina to help us downsize our ~~junk~~ stuff. Seems that we spend an awful lot of time moving our stuff from place to place and trying to organize it. Mr. Wonderful wanted to get rid of some tools and actually be able to use his garage for woodworking projects. September 11th is the big day. I have been sorting thru my treasures and letting go of a lot of things. It is a freeing experience. Too many ideas and not enough time!

The Hollyhocks loved the heat. My flowers have never recovered from the hot dry weather we have had in Ohio.

Food has been the theme for this month. Gigi and I had dinner at Deer Ridge golf course.

We celebrated my sister, Kathy's birthday there later the same week.

Friday of the same week, we had a little gathering at our house. The strawberries this year are sooo good!

Mr. wonderful's dear friend, David and my sweet friend Gigi have both been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, cancer that develops from the plasma cells of the bone marrow. David is in his sixth year of treatment and Gigi started treatment this year. They both are doing awesome! Gigi has been so incredibly brave and has the best outllook. She is truly amazing! We got together with them and their ever so supportive spouses to compare notes. It is good to know someone else with the same diagnoses.

Saturday of the same week we ran to Columbus to celebrate the 19th anniversary of our niece,Jill's 21st birthday.

More food! Quiche and strawberry soup.

Later that day we visited the Franklin Park Conservatory with our son and daughter-in-law. The flowers were almost as beautiful as Crystal! The glass sculptures are by the artist Chihuly.

Finally a picture of me that I like!

The following Monday was Button Study at my house. Mary Weinberg was our very special guest. She shared her collection of lighthouse buttons. She also helped us identify some of our mystery buttons. She came to us from the Polk Box Button Club in Dayton Ohio. I speak for all when I say Thank you for your generosity and knowledge!

Mary also brought a card of buttons depicting windows. So many beautiful buttons!

Roberta modeled a beautiful vintage dress that she found at an auction. She said it was very dirty but she was able to wash it. Good hunting!

Our first time guest, Peggy, wore a beautiful china calico bracelet that she had made. I don't know how she escaped! We were all lusting!

My granddaughter and I found this treasure at the local thrift store on Tuesday.

We celebrated Morgan's 12th birthday with this decadent chocolate cake!

We also did a lot of crafting!

We kept 3 of our 4 grandchildren overnight while Morgan went to a Justin Bieber concert for her birthday. Grandpa cut down golf clubs for the two boys. Fore!

We kept Amber's two again the next weekend and Grandpa helped Ashtin assemble these pests.

And last but not least, I got to see Wicked! Words can not describe! I felt like a little girl, trying to take it all in and not miss anything! My favorite musical! LOVED it!

We had dinner at Oscar's. Yummy! There were nine of us and a gab fest like no other! Good food, great company! Almost late to Wicked?

One of the most wonderful evenings of my life! My nose burns just thinking about it!

These two are the only ones that I could catch in front of the theater. Crystal, who planned the whole thing, and my sister Kathy! Look at those shoes! Thank you! I love you all! Button, button, who's got the buttons?

The trip to my parent's home is a 9 hour drive. That is not including pee breaks and coffee stops. We stop overnight in Florence Kentucky. We get an early start and arrive in Florence a little after noon. Mr. Wonderful deposits me at the Florence Antique Mall and heads for the golf course. The picture above is one of those finds that give you goose bumps! They had me at the string of buttons. Then I read the small verse, I looked around to see if anyone had caught me wiping my eyes. Whoo! That was close.

Gee! Did someone see me coming or what? The picture was priced at 29.99. There was a sign in the booth 30% off all items over $20. Score! I would have paid full price. I will have to rearrange the sewing room to get it hung but a girls got to do what a girls got to do!

I think the style of clothing is what drew my eye to this piece. The tag said "news print fashion ad". I saw the word button and couldn't resist. When I got home I noticed a signature and date, Ethel Hays, 1929. I did a little research and found that Ethel Hayes was an American syndicated cartoonist specializing in flapper-themed comic strips in the 1920s and 1950s. She became one of the country's most accomplished children's book illustrators.

What a talented artist!

This beautiful handpainted rose on an oval canvas was found at Dutch Valley Antiques in Knoxville, TN.

It came from the amazing booth #504 of Cindy Corum! Cindy has a knack for displaying her gorgeous treasures! We were on the way home when we came upon this Antique Store and the truck was quite full or I could have done some real damage in this booth! As Arnold says "I'll be back!"

I did find a spot for this treasure!

I found this sweet sign in my Mother's ~~hoarding area~~ garage. She didn't make me beg too long for it!

I had the empty frame hanging in my "Girlfriend's Cafe". Perfect spot, perfect name!

I tease my Mother that I get all my ~~hoarding~~ junking skills from her! She is The Queen! She had almost all of these buttons waiting for me! Can you believe? Mind boggling isn't it!

My Mother gave me this sweet bracelet! It has 12 blue glass buttons on it! Thanks Mom! You talk about thrill of the hunt! I have overdosed! Don't tell anyone but I am going on the Lincoln Highway yard sale the 5th of August. It is a yearly event for my sister, sister-in-law and me. North Carolina

The mountains were calling us. Actually it was my Dad calling every other day asking when we were coming to visit.

We love the mountains. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is breath taking!

My parent's home is tucked back in the mountains. We love setting in one of the two swings on their screened in porch just taking in the view!

My Dad built himself a workshop at the bottom of their driveway. This is where he carves and hides from my Mother.

The flowers were gorgeous! I have never seen so many bees, butterflies and Hummingbirds on one tree!

This is my Mother's rolling pin collection. My Father built the wooden rack to hold them. I know she has more somewhere. I wonder where they are hiding?

Hi, Dad!

These two are partners in crime. They are best buddies! They worked on building a bridge the whole time we were there. I have never heard my Dad laugh so much. Mr. Wonderful and Dad really know how to have a good time. Mother and I went junking everyday. She is the Queen of thrifting! The last day her sweet neighbor, Andrea, went with us. We had a blast! A little Hanky Panky!

Have you been thinking about putting some of those hankies that you've been ~~hoarding~~ collecting to use? Here is a fun way to use some of those that are not perfect. How many you use will depend on the size of your dressform. For my girl I used 54 stained and torn hankies.

I am very happy with the way she turned out. I must tell you this was my second try. The first time I didn't make her a slip and the dressform fabric showed thru at the waist. This time I took 6 hankies, ironed them flat,then straight pinned them on the dressform.

Like this.

Then I chose 12 white hankies,ironed them flat,then pinched the center and pinned them about 1 inch from the bottom.

This is what she looks like with the first row on.

I used print hankies for the next row, spacing them between the white hankies. There are a total of 4 rows.

I then chose a hanky for the top of her dress, folded it point to point and pinned from underneath.

Attach the back one first then the front.

Add ribbon for a belt, stick in a little posy and give her a necklace. Voila! That's what I call Hanky Panky! Happy hunting! ~Robin!

After visiting a friend at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, we stopped at a few of my favorite stores. Home goods, Marshalls, Michaels, and Goodwill. The "junk whisperer" was in heaven! I love me some silver! Mr. Wonderful doesn't get the patina thing. He wants to polish it .

I can't resist a silver tray! Everything looks better sittin on a ~~Ritz~~ silver tray!

Score! Bingo cards. I mount buttons on these babies! There was a penny in one of the boxes.

I use these metal picture frames to display vintage postcards, 50 cents each!

Cutest little playing cards, easy to hold, hard to shuffle!

I have been wishing for a candle-abra to fufu! I am thinking a little spray paint and teacups. Oh yea!

This Christineholm's porcelaine treat tray was brand spanking new in the box! I have a little china with rose ~~hoarding~~ addiction. Is there a 12 ~~place setting~~ step program? All these goodies cost $18.

These two sweeties spent two days at our house, cutting paper and creating masterpieces. Mr. Running with scissors said he had the best time of his life! Who wants to craft with Grandma? Now I need a serious nap! Anyone else have a "where bloggers create " hangover? Happy hunting! ~Robin~

Before I give you a tour of my creative spaces, I want to thank Karen Valentine for being our hostess with the mostess! A toast to you! I so enjoyed last years event! I didn't participate but I did look at every blog. Magnifique!

I signed up this time, walked to my "sewing/button hoarders room and had a panic attack. I thought about emailing Karen and opting out, but I ain't no quitter! I quickly left that room and went to what use to be our house garage. We have lived here 9 years and never had a vehicle inside of it. Time for a change. Mr Wonderful, at my ~~nagging~~ suggestion replaced the garage door with french doors. Let the games begin!

500 pages of sheet music, lots of Mod Podge, and an old Funk and Wagner dictionary later, Voila!

Mr. Wonderful removed the cabinet doors and painted the cabinets white while shaking his head. ( he just don't get it) and he really didn't get the sheet music deal. None the less I continued to glue dictionary pages to the back of the cabinets hoping thru osmosis I would learn to spell. Didn't work?

Now all my storage boxes needed to be matchy, matchy so more Mod Podge and dictionary pages.

The scrapbook paper around the lid makes me giggle!

I was not liking the looks of the "primary colored' sizzix cutters so, you know the routine, Mod Podge and more dictionary pages.

Fasten your seat belts and keep your arms inside the ride at all times. Here we go!

I cut circles from the dictionary pages (who would have guessed?) and put them behind the knobs of the candy jars. SWEET!

I love all the storage and of course got to have some tunes! Anyone have the "Waiting to exhale" cd?

No, not me! My amazing daughter-in-law and her magnificent assistant, my son, have started their own photography business. I knew that they were good but I didn't know just how good. That is until I watched as they did a fashion shoot. Wow! I mean WOW! Crystal was in her zone! She was shooting the most amazing shots.

It didn't hurt that she was shooting the most gorgeous model, Laura.

WICKED! Birthday month part 1

May is my birthday month! Whoo! It is official. I am a brat! I am a good brat. My family and friends spoil me rotten. I am going to WICKED! YIPPEE! With 7 of my favorite people. All four of my children are going! What a treat! My sweet daughter-in-law and son gave me the ticket and made all the arrangements so that everyone could go. SWEET!

My sister-in-law, Margi, gave me these wonderful gifts.

Our dear friends, Ginny and Reid, sent me this gorgeous basket of flowers.

My Mr.Wonderful gave me my favorite perfume.

My friend Gayla sent me the beautiful necklace and earrings. A friend of her's made them!

Yes! The most wonderful kaliedoscope from the most wonderful Husband in the whole world! He found it at my favorite Antique mall in Lancaster while we were on my birthday trip. Yes, I am one wicked brat!

Mother of Pearl Buttons

Winnifred presented a very informative program on Mother of Pearl buttons at this months button study.

These are two types of shells that buttons would have been cut from.

This is a shell after the buttons have been cut from it.

Here we have carved and pierced Mother of Pearl buttons.

These MOP buttons are embellished with metal.

This is a carved MOP belt buckle. Winnefred had a gorgeous collection of MOP buttons, and as always was a fountain of information. 91 years young and a delight to have in our group. Thank you ,Winnefred!

My daughter that sews!

Ashley wasn't able to come home for Mother's Day. She had a floor reset at work and whoever scheduled that must not be a mother or have one! Anyway, she came home the week-end before and we spent two days sewing. Yes, I have a daughter that sews! I also have a daughter-in- law that sews. I am sure it is just a matter of time before the other two girls jump on board the sewing wagon.

Ashley designs clothes. Right now her big girl job is dressing mannequins. Lucky girl. We may have talked more than we sewed, I love catching up with whats going on with her. She is ~~crazy~~ funny and has good

taste in music.

I can't show you yet what she was working on but I will very soon. Check back. I worked on a cute tote. I can't decide if I should keep it or put it on Etsy.

Oh how quickly they grow! They don't stay babies long. Birds that is. These babies are changing every day.

These little ones are looking pretty crowded. They are waiting to be fed!

On April 13th I noticed an old friend's return. Her name is Robin also. She loves to fluff her nest, just like me!

Her nest is here in my spring wreath. She built it last year and when she was finished with it I hung it in the garage. She moved back in and did a little fluffing.On April 15th this is what I found.

Today these little nearly naked babies arrived. They are so adorable! Momma was out hunting worms when I took this picture. I will keep you posted on their progress. Happy hunting! ~Robin~

Elizabethtown Kentucky or E'town as the locals call it!

I may be responsible for the headlines in the E'town newspaper; E'town on the rebound! The city has seen some recuperation in the retail sector. I certainly did my part. Tuesday Mornings,Kirklands,TJmaxx,Goodwill, Hancock Fabrics and Pier One! Yes, I did my part!

Why Elizabethtown you ask? Golf resort! Happy Mr. Wonderful and his brother. 144 holes of golf in 4 days. What these two will endure to not have to shop!

My ever so patient and sweet sister-in-law bought me this gorgeous box. We both have a thing for boxes. She let me pick an early birthday present!

This box came from Tuesday Mornings also.

I found this tray with germany backmark at the Goodwill. The blue Spode plate came from the Goodwill also.

I found this candle holder at Kirkland's along with the teacup fountain.

These signs I am not sure where I found.

The Lefton pitcher and bowl and the piece of gingerbreading came from an antique mall in Florence Kentucky.

Mr. Wonderful took me to the Ohio Spring Button Show. What a man! I found some treasures and saw many exquisite buttons. Here are a few of my treasures;

Fanny Lily Gipsy Davenport was an English-born American stage actress debuting in 1862. I found 3 different size buttons depicting her.

Some thrills of the hunt

These are some of the treasures I found on the weekend roadtrip.

A wonderful blue hobnail basket.Who can resist handpainted roses? Not I.Someone has amassed some hands. Mr. Wonderful insisted that I needed these! I have more than a few in white but none this color. He knows his sister collects jadeite and " Granny Stellee" will probably end up giving them to her.What do you think Margi?Can you quess what this is? A cigarette holder. Yes! Mr. Wonderful collects smoking items so there may be some debate over who gets this baby. I think it would make the cutest pencil holder.

This sweet little creamer matches two other pieces that I picked up at thrift stores.

This amazing birds nest was found at The Urban Farmhouse. Anything that has to do with birds comes home with Robin.A cute little bird feeder from Polly's booth. You can bet that it will soon be holding robin egg blue buttons.

This is the birdcage stand I found at The Urban Farmhouse. There was a birdcage with it but I had already fufued this one and it fit.This birdcage and stand was already in the other window of the back of our nest. So you see I just had to have one for the other window.Right? A pretty Avon perfumed talc can, Avon matching jewelry, childs' hanky and bingo cards. BINGO!Two beautiful hankies with leaves.Just a few of the buttons that I found on this trip. So many buttons so little time.

This is the last piece I have to show you. What is it you ask? A wine and glass holder? A condiment or salad dressing caddy? Only time will tell. The wheels are ~~grinding~~ turning. A weekend road trip

Mr. Wonderful and I took off for Lancaster, Ohio on Friday morning. We stopped in Sunbury at Valentine's antique store and learned that they will be closing. They will still sell on line and have auctions once a month. I was sorry to hear this. I have enjoyed treasure hunting there. Mr. Wonderful played golf while I shopped. We then headed on to Lancaster.

This is my favorite antique mall in Ohio! Not so large that I go blind but a good selection of treasures. The prices are awesome. Saturday the majority of the booths were having a one day sale. Score!

This is the delightful young lady that my favorite booth belongs to; Polly. Her booth has a very french cottage style. Polly gave us directions to the Urban Farmhouse. WOW! I wanted it all. I settled for a sweet bird cage and stand , the most delicious smelling verbena flower soap, and a beautiful bird's nest. As if that wasn't enough, Polly suggested Billy Cricket's for dinner. Now my favorite Restaurant is in the same town as my favorite antique mall. How convenient! There is also a TJ maxx. Sweet!The food was the best! Creme Brulee prepared perfectly. Hand carved mallard drake

Mr. Wonderful is also Mr. Talented. He spent about 120 hours carving this magnificent duck.

It is a mallard drake carved from black walnut. Carving is one of Mr. Wonderful's favorite winter hobbies. When he can't golf he can carve.

He free hand wood burns all the detail after about 30 hours of sanding.

Mr. Wonderful has carved about 135 birds. Every new one is my favorite. I love the beautiful grain of the wood and the detailed wood burning. The feathers look like they would move if you blew on them.

I love Mr. Wonderful and I am amazed at his talent. Happy hunting Robin

Button,button, who's got the buttons?

This is a picture of one of my favorite buttons. It is a lacy glass button given to me by a dear friend. Thank you Gayla!

This card holds red glass buttons. Glass buttons have always been my favorite buttons!

My mother gave me this picture frame room divider. Mr. Wonderful painted it and cut mat board for me. I have mounted a few of my "favorites" here.

A Kate Greenaway button is another of my favorites. Kate Greenaway was born in 1846 and died in 1901. She is perhaps the best known of the great Victorian children's illustrators and painters. In 1955 the British Library Association established The Kate Greenaway Medal for the most distinguished work in the illustration of children's books.

The top button is metal with faceted steel pieces which are individually riveted in place.

Monday my dear button friend, Roberta ,came over for a button play day. We shared stories and buttons! I somehow managed to mount 432 buttons on cards. A new baby! YEA!

Sunday Crystal had a baby shower for my niece Tiffany and her precious little Jayce. I made a few decorations from tissue paper and scrapbook paper.

The banner will be hanging in his nursery at home.

My daughter-in-law Crystal made this adorable tricycle party favor. Love IT!

Now for the main attraction; Jayce. He was beyond adorable. So darn cute. We cuddled and passed him all day! I must admit I had him a little more than my share. What can I say? He was the best baby.

What happened to last week? It is just a blur! I have an etsy shop, I sold an apron, button study, retired librarian's luncheon, on and on, blah blah blah! Oh yea, and a migraine! Did I mention Mr. Wonderful has Bronchitis?

He is on the mend! I may be beyond mending! On Friday I decided to do some spring cleaning. Now one of my sweet friends told me only old people spring clean. I'm officially old and have been all my life. Just an old soul. Anyway, this would be our island with nothing on it. Look close it doesn't happen often!

Mr. Wonderful built this island from a picture out of a magazine. Magazines strike fear in his heart because he knows where there is a magazine there are ideas. I love the book shelves on each end. More room for more treasures!

The silver is an accidental collection. I don't know how it happened officer! (maybe a picture in a magazine) OK My name is Robin and I am a magazinaholic. Romantic Homes and Victoria are my cocktail of choice. I need a 12 step program, an intervention and another issue!

So I cleaned off the island and decorated it for Easter. Mark that off my list.

Mr. Wonderful has a strong urge to bite the ears off of these bunnies!

My bucket list

This Sunday I was able to mark one thing off of my bucket list. No I did not jump out of a moving airplane! I have an Etsy shop! Oh how I dreamed of this day. My own little shop to sell some of the sweet little things I make, so that I can buy more fabric and make more sweet things. Sounds like a vicious circle doesn't it!

First I must thank my photographer, my lovely daughter-in-law Crystal, she shot and edited a zillion pictures. Our little model ,who made Crystal's job much easier, worked the camera. Thank you Addy! You rock!

Last but not least my ever so patient son, Shannon, the family computer expert that we use and abuse. I love you all more than you can possibly comprehend.

I can't believe it! I have an Etsy shop. Yea! I am still doing the happy dance!

Road trip

Margi and I took an overnight road trip Thursday and Friday. We left Galion and headed southwest to Mt. Victory. We left our mark on a number of Antique stores in the area.

Pretty shoes to make into pincushions,

We then went northwest to Van Wert. It was there that I found 26 National button bulletins dating back to 1950. The National Button society was started in 1938. I paid less than a dollar each for the bulletins.

The articles in the bulletins are very interesting to this button floozy!

I found a silverplated pitcher for Mr. Wonderful to polish. He is the official silver polisher.

This is a childs vintage apron. Roses, couldn't resist!

This apron was made for an older child. It will fit My Morgan.

I love the back of this apron and will use it as a pattern.

I couldn't resist the cover of this small book. Perfect for an altered art project. The book was written in 1895. There are wonderful illustrations inside.

I read a lot about Helen Keller when I was a child. I was amazed and amused by her! This book she wrote in 1903.
After Van Wert we backtracked to Lima and spent the night. There is a Hobby Lobby, Joann fabrics, scrapbooking store and TJMaxx in the same strip mall. I ain't lyin! For real. I kid you not. We had a late dinner at Applebees and headed to the room to watch Idol and read button bulletins. I know you wish you were me right now, don't you?
The next morning we found the GW then headed toFindlay to Jeffrey's antique gallery. That place kicked my PYQ! You need 2 days, a power nap and lots of carbs to see all there is to see! We left there and headed for Bettsville. A fabric store called the Door Mouse was there.

I scream, you scream, we'll all scream for ice cream! Oh! The delicious apron I will make from this.

This fabric begged to come home with me.

Too cute!

My Favorite in the whole world was this! Buttons! Do you believe your eyes! SWEET!

Panels to match. You don't say! I did the happy dance right there in the Door Mouse. Yep. I did.

That takes some doing because there is hardly room to move in that place. Fabric everywhere!

What's cooking?

Not me! If this "sweet" apron doesn't make you want to cook you must be related to me!

I finished it this morning. I love the fabrics and colors together. The fabric came from Millers dry goods in Amish country. Go figure? Amish and hot shoes? not so much!

Anyway, the fabric begged to come home with me. How could I say no when all my sweet girls are shoe floozies. Yes Kathy, that includes you!

Objects of desire! A girl can never have enough shoes.

If I did cook this would be the apron of choice!

Oh Yes! Hot. hot,hot.

Tallulah insisted that I introduce you to Fifi. Fifi came to Ohio from Paris, or was that Home Goods in Columbus. She now serves tea daily in our family room.

She is happy in her corner next to the wonderful find that Mr. Wonderful painted for me. After he painted it I decoupaged roses and bows on the front.

Soon I will show you some of the eye candy inside. The small green cabinet came from an antique mall south of Columbus. It was already painted green. I just added the roses and rubbed a little gold paint on the edges. It holds all my back issues of Romantic Homes and Victoria magazines. I hope you enjoyed a peek in our happy home. I am blessed! I didn't have a clue until I saw the tag. My Mr. Wonderful dropped me (like a hot potato) at the Heritage square antique mall in Columbus and he went to the Dome to hit golf balls on Sunday.

A hanky holder! Who would have thought. Not really an antique but too cute!

I did it! The hanky tablecloth is finished!

If nothing else this blog has made me finish what I start in a timely manner. I have been known to start a sewing project, and when the going gets tough I tuck it away. This tablecloth could have been one of those projects. I had a hard time deciding how to finish it. I am glad I stuck with it.

The two hands in the back were marked 50 cents. yes, you heard me right. Where will I put the hands you ask?

Just a little scary?! One of those collections that got out of hand. LOL

The hands holding the box in the middle is a cigarette holder. There is an ashtray to match somewhere.

The sad thing is this is not all the hands, there are more in the sewing room.

Yo Yos

If you ever hear that I have been commited; this is why. Yo yos. Yes, little circles of fabric. My first daughter, Crystal will be the one to sign the papers. Quite often she calls and asks me what I'm doing. My response is; sewing yo yos. The fact that I have boxes of the little fabric circles stored away doesn't help my case. Yes, they are sorted by color. So what!

This is a jar of sewn yo yos waiting for a project.

What a fun way to use fabric scraps.

This is three of the pillows that I have made from yo yos. I remember my grandmother had one when I was a little girl.

I love the two shades of pink in this coverlet. The texture of the yo yos are very eye pleasing.

They are whimsical and they pop.(as they would say on hgtv)

This is the first coverlet that I made about 8 years ago.

If you sew over 1000 yo yos together, this is what you get. This coverlet would fit a full bed. Done in my favorite colors.

As you see the evidence is mounting. I wonder if they allow sharp objects where I will be going? I hope sew.lol

Happy Valentines day! I am sending some beautiful cards that I found at an auction.

I put them in shadow boxes and hung them in the dining room.

I leave them up all year.

More valentines from the same auction. These were dated 1965.

Mr. Wonderful got me these gorgeous pink roses. What a welcome sight in the middle of winter.

I can't wait to see the first bulb push thru the ground.

He also gave me the bright red rose in the center of this arrangement. Every year for valentines day he gives me one of these beautiful real roses. They are preserved and dipped in 24K gold.

I love roses. Roses are my favorite decorating theme. I never tire of their beauty.

Now here is Mr. Wonderfuls valentines present, his birthday present and his christmas present for the next 10 years. Just kidding! If he could only use them really soon. Love to all and happy hunting! Robin

I have not been out of the house since Monday. Not a problem for me, because I have projects. I did stop at the thrift store on Mondayfor a little thrill of the hunt! I found some treasures.

First this beautiful cup and saucer,

then this oh so sweet cup and saucer. Both are marked bone china from England.

This lovely photo album will become some sort of button display.

The pages are beautiful.

The project I worked on while watching tv last night. Mr. Wonderful said it was a hairy thing. We went from foofoo to hairy in no time. Just remember it is not done yet.

This is my version of Winnifreds' quilt. I decided I would get more use from a tablecloth. I have to finish the edges with eyelet or lace and applique something between the hankies. I will look at it for a couple of days before I decide how to finish it. Happy hunting! Robin

Winifred brought this amazing quilt to button study today. It takes my breath away! There are 25 different hankies, she quilted each one and edged the quilt with beautiful white eyelet. Winifred celebrated her ninety first birthday last month. She is wise beyond her years and a delightful addition to our button study! I will be counting my valentine hankies later tonight. I have been inspired.

Our dear Roberta did the program on china stencils. She has hers so organized. Remember that I said there were over 60 patterns. there are also multiple sizes and colors of each pattern. That is a whole lot of collecting!

I combined buttons to look like candy for a valentines treat for each lady. The "doggone" cute valentines came from TJ Maxx. I bet you are wandering what happened to all the candy from those boxes. I will never tell! Happy hunting! Robin

It snowed and it blowed, and it snowed and it blowed some more. This was the scene from the family room outback. Soooo pretty!

Here is the bird cage on the front porch. Good thing it was unoccupied.

Margi, my sister-in-law and partner in crime, and I had a play date yesterday. She carded buttons to use on a decorative bird cage over her fireplace. I think the button bug may have bitten her.

We both decoupaged large clothespins. She made a magnet for the refrigerator and mine is a note clip. I have been known to lose a note or two.

Like I need to be reminded to sew!

I also worked on a valentines banner. It matches my sewing room so well I may leave it up .

I used scrapbook paper, crepe paper and of course buttons. Sweet!

After Margi left I decoupaged a heart box to match the banner. My Mr. Wonderful said I foofooed it. Poor guy, I've ruined him! Off to dance the night away with Phil Dirt and The Dozers. Happy hunting! Robin

Yesterday my dear friend Gigi and I headed out to the Goodwill. We scored big time. I found this beautiful tank.

The back is stunning.

Tallulah was so happy to be modeling something besides aprons. She was even happier when I transported her to the family room for her photo shoot. Project runway, lookout! We both love anything french. I still can't believe that I found this wonderful top!

The skirt I bought to make into aprons, but we won't tell Tallulah. She will be heart broken.

This is just a fun tank and a coverup. At our age coverups are good. Now for my favorite find!

The most comfortable gardening shoes in three colors and only $3.29 a pair. Come on spring!

I can't decide wich one I like best. I'm happy with them both.

These are the buttons we will focus on at button study. They are china stencils. there are about sixty patterns known. You can see that I have a few more to find. Off to sort buttons. Happy hunting! Robin

Meet Tallulah. She was a must have from an antique mall here in Ohio.

Tallulah must have had a hard life before she came home with me. There was talk that she had a part in a movie " Tarnished Lady" in 1931.

Now she is happy to model whatever I make. I don't think aprons are her favorite but she never complains.
I finished one apron today. It is lined with a bright pink cotton.

The decorative stitch gave the apron a little pizazz! Off to sort buttons. Happy hunting, Robin

Here are the buttons I have been sorting. Large black buttons made from different material,mostly plastic. I was looking for the largest button to take to button study.

This is the largest one I have found so far. 2 1/2 inches. Can't imagine what clothing that this button was on . Maybe a coat or cape.

These are the aprons that I am working on. I am very happy with the way they look. The top one was made from fat quarters.The pattern is from the book; SEW, SO CUTE! by Mary Engelbreit.

Today I stick my toe in the ocean of blogging! So many have shared their creativity and touched me thru blogging that I couldn't resist any longer. I hope to share many projects and thrifting finds with you. Maybe I will talk to you instead of talking to myself.
